About this Event
We invite you to join us in celebrating Wrexham’s rich heritage, hosted by the National Library of Wales and People’s Collection Wales (PCW).
If you love local history or are part of a community group, this event will help you capture, share, and celebrate the stories that matter to your area.
15:00 – 16:30: Skills & Workshops
Begin the afternoon with hands-on sessions that show you how to share and celebrate the stories that make Wrexham home:
- Presentation on how to digitise – Learn how to digitise and share your own materials with People’s Collection Wales.
- Clip Corners & Broadcast Archive: Get to know the Wales Broadcast Archive, watch some projections, and explore the archives on the laptops provided.
- Community Craft: Join a craft workshop with Sophia Leadill to make something to take home and contribute to the People’s Collection Wales.
16.15-16.45: Live Music
Enjoy live music from local musician Andy Hickie, who will play historic folk songs, and listen to the Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir.
17.00- 17.30 – Opening of the Clip Corner and Launch of the PCW Ambassadors Programme
The opening of the National Library of Wales Clip Corner at Wrexham Library and the launch of the People’s Collection Wales Ambassador Programme.
The new Clip Corner will provide public access to more than half a million television and radio programmes from the Wales Broadcast Archive.
The People’s Collection Wales Ambassador Programme is an initiative that will amplify the voices of individuals and communities, promote inclusive storytelling and broaden participation, particularly among underrepresented groups.
Speakers will include representatives from the National Library of Wales, Wrexham Library, Wrexham Miners Project and People’s Collection Wales Ambassador Dr Dafydd Roberts.
17:30 – 19:00: Talks and Music
Enjoy more music and talks from local speakers and a PCW Ambassador.
- PCW Ambassador: Hear more from our new ambassador, Jyoti Ramjee (RCAHMW), as she shares about the Welsh Asian Heritage Project.
- Local Voices: Huw Jones from the Wrexham Miners’ Project will talk about how archives have influenced their work.
- Deep History: Nicola Sawford, Chief Executive from Stori Brymbo will discuss the heritage of nature and industry through a 300-million year old Fossil Forest on the site of Brymbo Steelworks.
Refreshments
Tea, coffee, cakes and a buffet will be available during the event.
